La Taqueria is a popular taqueria in the heart of the Mission in San Francisco. Miguel Jara has owned it for over 30 years. Recently, he ended a decade-long lawsuit that would have cost him the building. Last month, he made a bid to buy it and keep La Taqueria on Mission Street indefinitely.

La Taqueria was not in Miguel’s name, and when his parents passed away, and didn’t leave a will, the building was split between him and his siblings. A few of them were willing to sign it over, but the others wanted to sell the building and make the taqueria move. About a month ago, Miguel put a bid in to buy the building for $1.7 million.

Miguel has retired somewhat from the busy taqueria, although he still works there on some weekends. Now he owns an auto shop and fixes and upgrades classic cars.
